Prentice Smith named as new Activities Director

Prentice SmithWest St. Paul-Mendota Heights-Eagan Area Schools (District 197) is pleased to announce that Prentice Smith will be the next Activities Director for middle and high school clubs and athletics. 

“Prentice was chosen due to a proven track record of transformational leadership,” said Ron Monson, principal of Henry Sibley High School. “He consistently puts students at the forefront of every decision he makes and the selection committee appreciated Mr. Smith's vision for the district's co-curricular programs.”

Smith started working in School District 197 in 2000. He was a 5th and 6th grade teacher at Heritage E-STEM Magnet School until 2008, when he moved to Kentucky to teach at an elementary school for two years. Smith returned to Heritage in 2010 where he was a classroom teacher until 2015 when he moved to his most recent position as the school’s Dean of Students. 

As Henry Sibley's long-time head wrestling coach, Smith has been active in high school athletics for the past 18 years. He also coached football at the high school and baseball at the middle school level in District 197.  

"I feel very fortunate to be selected as Activities Director at Henry Sibley High School, and lead a program where all students can find numerous opportunities to succeed,” said Smith. “I will work to champion efforts that continue to develop a strong sense of Warrior Pride in all of our schools and in the communities we serve!"

Smith holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Winona State University and a Master of Arts in Education from St. Mary’s University. He earned an Environmental Education certificate from Hamline University. Smith completed his professional administration licensure (Principal K-12) through St. Mary’s University.            

Smith will begin in his new role as Activities Director on August 7.
